About fluconazole

What does it do?

Thrush is a fungal infection, commonly caused by a type of yeast called candida. Although candida is naturally present in the body, an imbalance can trigger thrush symptoms. Fluconazole 150mg (also known as Diflucan and other brand names) kills certain types of fungi and restores your body's natural balance.

Taking fluconazole for the first time

Fluconazole treatment for thrush is simple - just one capsule to be swallowed with a glass of water. You can take this medicine at any time of day, with or without a meal.

How effective is it?

Women taking fluconazole should see an improvement within a few days. Some women will notice improvement in 24 hours.

For men, the condition can take a little longer to clear up. The symptoms should clear up within a few days, although this can take up to a week.

If your condition hasn't cleared up within one week, you should consult a doctor.

Cautions when using fluconazole

Thrush is an infection which can occur without sexual contact, so it is not a sexually transmitted disease. However, the infection can be passed on during sex, so it is recommended that you should not have sex until the infection has cleared up.

If you regularly suffer from thrush, then it's advisable that both you and your partner have thrush treatment at the same time.

Taking too much can make you unwell, so contact your doctor or nearest hospital immediately if you take more than you should.

Side effects of fluconazole

As with any medicine, there are side effects. Although a serious allergic reaction to fluconazole is rare. Common side effects (occurring in one in ten patients) include nausea, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, wind, rash and headache. However, these side effects are usually mild and don't tend to last long. If symptoms persist, or are particularly severe, contact your doctor.

A full list of side effects is available in the manufacturer's.

When not to take fluconazole

Tell your doctor before taking fluconazole if:

  • Have liver or kidney problems.
  • Suffer from heart disease, including heart rhythm problems.
  • Have abnormal levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood.

HOW AND HOW MANNY DIFLUCAN FLAVCONAZOLE INTERVENTED?

Diflubicin 150 mg is an antibiotic that inhibits the metabolism of bacteria by binding to the 50S subunit of the cytochrome P450 enzyme system. Diflubicin blocks the enzyme from being active at a proper level, thereby stopping the infection from spreading and causing serious side effects.

Diflubicin also inhibits the enzyme's activity, causing an increase in the amount of superoxide anion, which may lead to the formation of oxygen-rich species (e.g., light, oxygen) in the respiratory tract. Therefore, Diflubicin may cause an excessive amount of superoxide anion (e.g., O2) to be produced in the body. This may cause the following side effects:

  • severe allergic reactions (angioedema), including hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, hives that do not go away, swelling of the legs, ankles, or feet, chest pain, fainting.
  • skin rash (hives), especially in children or teenagers.

Diflucan and yeast infections are treated with fluconazole, a prescription drug used to treat infections such as vaginal thrush, and other infections. Fluconazole is available as a tablet, and can be taken with or without food. Fluconazole can help treat symptoms such as fever, chills, and pain or tenderness, and may also prevent yeast infections. However, you may not experience any of these side effects. To learn more, please see the following page:

Fluconazole can increase the risk of a vaginal yeast infection. To prevent yeast infections, doctors should not use fluconazole to treat vaginal yeast infections.
